Chairman of Rayleigh Town Council - Councillor Jack Lawmon
I am honoured to be elected as the Rayleigh Town Council Chairman for this municipal year. Following my marriage in 1967 I moved to Rayleigh where I have seen many changes over the year, some have been welcome and some questionable, but Rayleigh town and its residents have been what makes Rayleigh special. Both my son and daughter were born here and have attended Wyburns and Fitzwimarc schools.
I had been a precision engineer until the union difficulties in 1973, when in 1974 I joined the then Essex and Southend on Sea joint constabulary, later to become Essex Police. Spending 30 years policing in the Southend and Rayleigh area, I carried out duties in the Criminal Investigations Department and uniform. I ended my duties as a Police Sergeant on Community Policing. When retired from the force I then became an Antisocial Behaviour Coordinator for 7 years with Castle Point Borough Council until my full retirement.
I obtained my Master of Science Degree in Criminology and Community Safety with the University of Portsmouth, and I have always been interested in community safety and policing issues. This with my passion for my town of Rayleigh, In 2012 I was elected as a Rayleigh Town Councillor and have also served as Vice-Chairman for Rochford District Council. I am very much looking forward to my year as Rayleigh Town Council Chairman and hope to meet many residents during my term of office.
The Chairman will be supported by Vice-Chairman Cllr June Lumley.
